Abstract: The study was undertaken to assess whether there were any political, economic and socio-cultural factors that have impacted on women’s political participation in Nyamira County Kenya 1963-2013. This study made use of the Marxist feminist and gender theories. The targeted population was men and women aged 18 years and above in Nyamira County. Respondents were selected from each constituency on stratified random sampling and targeted at least 10 respondents from each constituency of Nyamira County. Data collection was done through question guidelines and interviews. The study found out that the colonial policies, practices and missionary activities greatly affected the participation of women in political processes in the area. This study was important because it contributed to knowledge and literature in the area.

Abstract: Pro social behaviour called Organisational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) is the voluntary behaviour that is exhibited by an employee which is useful for the improvement of the productivity however not rewarded by the formal reward system of the organisation. Even though a lot of research studies have been dedicated to find out what basically makes an employee to go for extra role behaviour, the role of external factor like culture of the country on this behaviour is not studied much. This paper tries to find out the relation between the cultural background of the individual and the level of OCB exhibited by the individual and few organisational strategies to improve the OCB in the employees of the organisation.

Abstract: Education in the Buddha period aimed at “Nirvana” (Salvation). Buddhist education system was democratic and had an interactional appeal. Teachers were monks who were well read, of high moral character and kind and fair. The learners were mostly monks. Later on women were also admitted but with lots of restrictions. Aims of Buddhist education were individual and social, academic and vocational, and earthly and heavenly. Along with aim of salvation, it also prepared pupils for worldly life through vocational education. The aims of Buddhist Educational System were comprehensive.

Abstract: Human resource is a major source for organization to obtain competitive advantage and can be very important in obtaining long-term performance.
The limits of recruitment process are the cost, the choice made, time and legislation. Any organization looks for minimizing the human resources recruitment, selection and employment costs. This paper presents the importance of cost in choosing the best practices of recruitment, selection, employment and integration of new employees in the organization, though, the cost is an important variable for analysis.All the above variables contribute significantly to the adoption of developmental strategies and policies among the cognitive behaviour models of enterprises and organizations.

Abstract: Recent developments in art education have heightened the need for preparing art education teachers so that they will be specialized and professional enough to develop their students effectively. However, some art researchers still question the skill levels of art education teachers who have graduated from art education institutions rather than fine art institutes. In this paper, the researcher attempts to defend the view that art education teachers are sufficiently specialized and professional and that their role in the field is not limited to teaching in schools.  

Abstract: Disparities in public boarding secondary schools are attributed to unique school’s cultures adopted by each school that affects and guides behaviours of the entire school population positively or negatively. A culture helps members to understand the environment and determine how to respond to the values, beliefs, and norms of the organization manifested by artifacts, collegiality, norms, ceremonies, and rituals. The purpose of this study was to establish implication of school culture on students’ academic performance in public boarding secondary schools in Kisii Central Sub County. The study objectives were to; Establish implication of school cultural norms and Determine implication of ceremonies on students’ academic performance. The study employed a structural-functionalist approach to Organizational Culture rooted by Malinowski, Radcliffe-Brown, Parsons, and Schein. Related literature was reviewed in line with the research objectives and guided by research questions. Concurrent Nested design employing Mixed Method Approach was adopted and utilized for this study. This study was conducted in Kisii Central Sub County in public boarding secondary schools. The target population was made up of 7 principals, 49 HODs, 80 class teachers, 164 student leaders, 7 BOM chairpersons and 7 PA chair persons. Saturated sampling was used to obtain a sample population constituting; 6 Principals, 42 HODs, 72 class teachers, 144 student leaders, 6 BOM chairpersons and 6 PA chair persons. Data collection instruments were Questionnaires, Interviews schedules, FGDs, Document analysis and Observation protocol. Reliability was addressed through piloting in 1 school which was randomly sampled from the target schools and test- retest was employed together with McMillan and Schumacher strategies to establish reliability and validity. Validity of instruments was further enhanced through expert vetting by two supervisors. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentages was used to describe and summarize quantitative data in form of tables to show trends. Thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data and focused on the discussion of the themes and sub-themes as they emerged. The findings of the study may benefit researchers, principals, MOEST officers as it would be a source of knowledge on the implication of school culture on students’ academic performance. The study establishes that school ceremonies should be vetted and those that work for the school’s attainment or promotion of school’s core function should be promoted while those that are retrogressive should be in consultation explained to the stakeholders and persuaded to embrace the decisions of avoiding them.. The study suggested further study on implication of school culture on students’ academic performance in private schools or any other contexts and settings to establish if the findings of this study are robust for generalization and adoption.

Abstract: This thesis explores the rationale behind re-engaging citizens in community welfare and as well as CSR approaches; and key issues, challenges and considerations in designing and implementing such approaches. It highlights overarching issues across sectors and community-contexts, with particular focus on implications specific to conflict affected and fragile contexts. Chapter one provides an overview of community to peace building and social responsibility, including a brief look at CSR and the contribution to the economy development, and more importantly, outlines the key aims and objectives of the study. Chapter two outlines literature of other researchers, their views on CSR, citizen’s participation in social responsibility and the rationalization of CBN/sectors activities. Chapter three highlight the research instrument (questionnaire, books journal and internet source) and methodology (reliability, validity, chi square, Anova and regression analysis) used for the study these approaches were use to collect data and as well as analyze data to get facts for the study. Chapter four displays the presentation and discussion of the findings gotten from the analyses result. In particular, it discusses how all the variables significantly affect each other and how they positively contribute to economy development. Also, the hypotheses were further tested using the regression analysis for the purpose of right decision. The final chapter provides summary (summarizes the whole chapters), findings (highlight the findings base on the analyzed result), conclusion (the institution of assumption for the study) and recommendation (the study was advised as a course of action) annotated specific case were the study can be useful, highlighting lessons learned and it effects.

Abstract: The study investigated the effect of music industry on the advertising industry in terms of improving general quality of advertisements in Nigeria. It aimed at finding out if music promotion adverts have influenced other Nigerian product or service adverts to improve in quality. The research used the survey method and data from 92 respondents are analyzed. Data was presented in tables and charts. Using the Chi-square “Goodness of Fit” test, the hypothesis were tested. The study revealed that music industry has influenced the quality of other adverts and to a great extent other Nigerian adverts have been improved by the influence of music promotion adverts. The recommendations of this study include that similar studies should be replicated in other cities and countries to compare findings with the result of this research. In future studies, the researchers should focus their studies on other media of advertising. This study provides a platform for subsequent researches, as well as provides a framework for music promoters to further use advertising to promote musical artistes.

Abstract: This study sought to establish the influence of devolved governance on the performance of the health sector in Kenya, Machakos County was used as the case study. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The target population was 525 health care providers from referral and sub-county hospitals of Machakos County. Stratified sampling method was used to sample 158 respondents (30%). Primary data was collected using questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The analyzed data was presented in tables. The findings of this study have shown that devolved policy and regulatory framework positively contributed to health sector performance. This study concludes that devolved procurement has a positive and significant contribution to health sector performance. The more devolved the procurement process the better the performance of health sector in Machakos County. Devolved leadership has a positive contribution to health sector performance in the county. However, this contribution is not statistically significant hence could have occurred by chance. Devolved resources have a positive and significant contribution to health sector performance. The more devolved the resources are the better the performance of health sector in Machakos County. Devolved policy and regulatory framework have a positive and significant contribution to health sector performance in Machakos County. This implies that the more devolved policies and regulatory frameworks regarding health are, the better the performance of health sector in Machakos County. This study recommends that the central government and Machakos County government should ensure that the procurement process in the health sector is fully devolved to improve performance. The devolved leadership in Machakos County should actively participate in health sector issues to ensure that they impact its performance. The central government should ensure that resources meant for Machakos County government is availed efficiently as this has been revealed to influence health sector performance. Machakos County government should utilize devolved resources to improve health sector performance. The policy makers and regulators in the health sector should ensure that they have adequate county reach as the more devolved they are the better the health sector performance.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of leadership on performance on County government in Kenya. The specific objectives were: to establish the effect of contemporary leadership styles, skills and ethics on performance of county government in Kenya. The study was undertaken at Machakos County government. The target population therefore comprised of 100 respondents. The study adopted descriptive research design. A sample of 60 respondents was drawn from the target population using stratified random. The study used stratified random sampling technique to select the sample. The study grouped the population into strata. From each stratum the study used simple random sampling to select respondents. The researcher used both secondary data as well as questionnaires as the research instrument to gather the relevant information needed related to the study. The questionnaires was both open and closed ended to respondents thus was not limited to give their opinion regarding the study at hand. The questionnaire was divided into two parts.. Quantitative research was used to provide numerical measurement and analysis of the medical insurance dynamic. Survey questionnaires was used for standardization purposes to allow for aggregation of the results. A structured questionnaire was administered on the sampled respondents. The questionnaire was pilot tested to authenticate its reliability and validity before it was administered in the final study.

Abstract:The objective of the study was to explore the difficulties among the students with disorders in learning and understanding the languages with unimpaired language development. Children with the language development disorders (LDD) between the ages of four-sixteen years were selected and compared with the behavioral problems in the classes. The study was also done to know the parents, teacher’s contribution towards the students for the language development.  The results were interpreted using chi- square and partial correlation analysis. In general, our results agree with several studies that report that children with speech and language disorders are at special risk for developing behavioral problems. The parents and teachers are also contributing their efforts in the language development and the behavioral problems among the students.

Abstract: The general objective of the research project was to assess the determinants of project implementation in non-governmental organizations in Kenya, a case study of UNDP Kenya. The study specifically aimed to; determine the effect of employee competence on project implementation; assess how cost of outsourcing affected project implementation; establish how management support affected project implementation and to determine the effect of project monitoring and control techniques on project implementation. The study adopted a descriptive research with a study population of total of 169 staff working at UNDP Kenya offices in Nairobi. The study applied probability sampling design by using a stratified random sampling technique to select a sample size of 64 respondents. The main data collection instruments were the questionnaires containing both open ended and close ended questions which were pretested using a pilot study. Descriptive statistics data analysis method was applied to analyze data aided by Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to compute response frequencies, percentage mean and standard deviation results. Finally Multiple Linear Regression model was employed to establish the significance of the independent variables on the dependent variable. The findings were presented using tables and charts. Findings from the study showed that employee competence, cost of outsourcing, management support and project monitoring and control techniques affected project implementation at UNDP Kenya. The study concluded that employee competence followed by project monitoring and control techniques; then management support and lastly cost of outsourcing affected project implementation in UNDP Kenya. The study recommended that the NGO management and the departments responsible for project implementation should train all the employees involved and affected by the project being implemented on how to undertake their job tasks effectively. The training should give emphasis on improving the management skills of the project managers and organization management; improving and sharing knowledge and expertise among project implementation team and organization staff and also give employees orientation on how to participate in project implementation activities in the organization.

Abstract: In this paper, we claim that Standard Arabic (SA henceforth) has agentive passive. We also claim that we can extend the Chomskian approach of Minimalism that we introduce in Ayyat et.al (2013) to derive short passive to agentive passive in standard Arabic. We assume that a Voice° with a valued (-active) feature should be introduced with the passive infex as its specifier to the derivation. Moreover, we assume that verbs enter the derivation with unvalued voice feature and be involved in a probe-goal syntactic relationship with Voice°. This relationship motivates the verb to move up for two reasons: The first is to check its unvalued voice feature. The second is to pick up the passive infex from the Voice° and moves up to TP to satisfy the Extended Projection Principle (EPP henceforth) and derive a VSO sentence. Three approaches to passive are discussed: Collins` Smuggling Approach (2005), Gehrke and Grillo`s Approach (2009) and Muller`s Cut and Merge Approach (2014). We claim that DPs in agentive passive originate in different positions from the active sentence. This goes in line with Chomsky`s Principles and Parameters and argues against Collins` Smuggling Approach in which DPs are generated in the same positions of the active sentence.

Abstract: The village was the principal habitat of the people who constituted the core of community. Their games, plays and folk songs were all part of everyday life. They were folk arts, not necessarily backed by scientific rules. They represented rhyme and reason of their lives enlivened by enthusiasm. Every art form had its unique distinction. They always impressed both pundits and common people. Even in B.C. era, the people of Telugu provinces were well-versed in music, dance and drama. Many kinds of musical instruments and equipment were in use.
The arts of the Karimnagar district reflect the culture, tradition, civilization of the people of this area.  These arts are intertwined with their lives. The artists made the art as their profession and earned their livelihood. In those good times there was respect and encouragement for arts. Some of such arts are described below:
Yakshaganam or Chindu Bhagavatam. Mandulavallu, Garadivallu (Magicians), Burrakathalu, Ganta Gangams, Budige Jangalu, Pittaladora, Gollasuddulu, Katikapalavallu Pambalavaru, Beerannalavaru, Bavaneelu, Budabukkalavaru, Harikatha (Dramatic Monologue), Phakeer veshalu, Sadhana surulu, Jogata, Kaddi Vayidhyam, Vamshrajas or (Gothralu), Balasanthulavaru, Veedhi bhagothalu, Chinna Madhigas, Tholubommalata (Puppet Show) etc. 
For so many centuries these shows entertained Telugu people. They are gradually disappearing as the result of movies.  Now these arts and shows are rarely seen in this region. Thus the said art forms are part of creativity and experience gained since bygone times and there is need to protect these folk art forms.

Abstract: The focus of this study is examination of in-between hybrid identity and the consequent alienation on marginal groups with close reference to Rhy’s Wide Sargasso Sea and Pollard’s Homestretch. Minorities that live in alien cultures choose hybridity as strategy of resistance against discrimination. Although it is an effective strategy of coexistence, young migrant characters experience alarming levels of psychological instability. Erik Erikson observes that adolescents who migrate during years of “identity crisis” (220) to foreign countries experience complicated cultural transition marked by ambivalence and identity split. As a result, these children attempt to incorporate here and there into a meaningful sense of self. The constant shift from one end of the identity continuum to the other in young migrant characters causes internal fragmentation that may lead to insanity. Depression, stroke and madness are recurring motifs in migration literature owing to tendency of characters to choose the in-between space. Older migrant characters are comparatively stable in spite of facing same discriminatory experiences like youthful immigrants. This study analyses levels of hybridity and their effect on the inner life of migrant characters. Using Homi Bhabha’s concept of hybridity it explores the impact of in-between hybrid identity on the mental health of characters in Jean Rhys’ Wide Sargasso Sea and Velma Pollard’s Homestretch.

Abstract: Herbert Ernest Bates was a prolific author who enjoyed several phases of popularity during his lifetime. He initially garnered critical attention in the late 1920s with novels and short stories set in the rural English midlands.  In these works Bates employed pastoral imagery and a lush prose style to vividly evoke mood and atmosphere while focusing on ordinary yet significant events in the lives of his characters.  During World War II, Bates was commissioned Royal Air Force to write about the experiences of fighter pilot, leading to a series of esteemed short stories that examine effects of war on soldiers and civilians. Later in his career Bates returned to rural settings and themes, frequently depicting poignant incidents in the lives of children or elderly characters. Among his most popular later works are those which feature protagonists who vigorously pursue the sensual pleasures of life and nature. Bates also wrote The Modern Short Story, a respected literary study of short fiction.
Bates is perhaps best known for his short stories, particularly those written during the late 1920s and 1930s and collected in several volumes, including Day’s End, and Other Stories and Seven Tales and Alexander. The setting of these early works, noted V.S. Pritchett,  “was usually the traditional life of the small farms, cottages and holdings, his people the hedgers ditchers thatchers and local carriers–a horse-and-cart England in the main, the England of rural haggling and feelings which had changed very little for centuries and often sounds Chaucerian and ripe in speech.” Critics have frequently compared his early stories to the works of Anton Chekhov, citing their minimal plot lines, thematic emphasis on everyday activities, and lucid evocation of atmosphere and emotions.
