Abstract:Teaching strategies are techniques that teachers use in teaching to ensure that intended concepts are acquired by the learners. One of the teaching strategies used to develop reading skills among pre-primary children is group work. The use of ability grouping, heterogeneous and homogeneous grouping and cooperative group work have been found to improve teaching competencies among pre-primary children. The purpose of this study was to establish the effects of group work as a teaching strategy on development of reading skills among pre-primary children in Manga Sub-County, Nyamira County, Kenya. The target population for the study was 120 pre-primary teachers and 840 pre-primary children. The study used cluster and simple random sampling in obtaining a sample size of 19 schools, 36 pre-primary teachers and 252 pre-primary children. Data was collected by means of questionnaires, reading test and observation checklists. The findings indicated that there was a weak positive correlation (r=.354, n=34, p<.05) between teachers’ use of group work as a teaching strategy and pre-primary children’s development of reading skills. Findings of this study could help pre-primary teachers to evaluate their instructional practices in the teaching of reading and also help curriculum developers in carrying out in-service training courses.

Abstract:The Integrated Financial Management Information system (IFMIS) is a computerized budgeting, accounting and reporting system used by Kenyan Government to plan and use its financial resources more efficiently and effectively. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) on Accountability in TransNzoia County Government. The study was guided by the objective as follows to determine the effect of technological skills on IFMIS accountability in TransNzoia county government. The objectives also form the themes in literature review. The research design was descriptive survey design; through a case study on Trans-Nzoia County. The study targeted officers from all key departments of the county. Data was collected from the respondents through the use of a questionnaire from the target population of employees in the Trans-Nzoia County. Validity, Reliability, where Cronbach alpha was  used and pilot test was conducted in order to pre-test the accuracy of the data collection instruments in Bungoma County Government and West Pokot County Government. Data was analyzed by technique of multiple regressions which was used to test the hypotheses,to measure: effects, strength of relationship. Based on the findings the study concluded the following as follows; Technological skills (β = 1.113) was found to be positively related to IFMIS accountability in Trans Nzoia County. From t-test analysis, the t -value was found to be 5.340 and the ρ -value 0.000. Statistically, this null hypothesis was rejected because ρ<0.05. Thus, the study accepted the alternative hypothesis and it concluded that technological skills affect the IFMIS accountability in Trans Nzoia County.   Based on the findings, the researcher recommended the following:  IFMIS should be made stable networked with LAN at the County to supports management, accounts and procurement that secures provided information required for crucial decision making.    Managers should coordinate and provide proper communication to Head of departments and other staff in their departments. The county government of Transnzoia should make sure that all Managers technical personnel and other staff at the County Treasury to run IFMIS are involved in the exercise. The technical staff should be trained to acquire knowledge enough to configure and customize IFMIS System, trouble shoot and maintain the IFMIS System. Technical staff offers trainings and orientation to other staffs in other departments within the County on IFMIS System application. The County government should hire technical team with technical knowledge for the operation of IFMIS system that offer protection of the system by updated firewalls and anti-virus.  The top management and the staff should be willing and committed to change in the use of technology and strengthen the use of complex systems such as IFMIS and achieve their public sector objectives through technical assistance and urgent maintenance, frequent updates and reliable service.  This study was to assist counties in developing the right models and strategies in the key aspects that can be used for developing and implementing financial aspects.

Abstract:Like other Oromo communities living in Oromia regional state, Matakal Oromo has Identity, Language and Marvelous Culture. Therefore, for unspecified long period of time, struggling the oppressing factors in loving its identity, speaking and trying to develop its language; as well as, practicing its culture. However, it was bad condition in which the community has passed, and today on the struggle of protecting these three domains of humanities. The challenges are pre planed and tactic-full to negatively affect the identity, language and culture of the community. However, the Oromo community in the area sacrificed many things from material up to its life and made them to survive.

Abstract:This study investigated leadership styles and performance of government ministries, Embu County, Kenya. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. Systematic sampling technique was used to sample five ministries thus very. Questionnaires were used to collect primary data. Secondary data was collected from the library and from organizations. The statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for statistical analysis. The study found that leadership styles correlates positively and significantly on performance of selected government ministries in Embu County, Kenya. The study recommended capacity building of all supervisors. The study also suggested further studies on the same on non-governmental organizations.

Abstract:Celebrity endorsement, as a marketing strategy, is effectively in fashion. The success stories of this strategy have turned this trend into a movement which is gaining its momentum all over the world. The strategy has advanced from celebrities appearing in commercials to having a stake in the endorsed brand. Despite the widespread use of athletes as product or brand endorsers, there is a relative lack of published research that investigates the influence these athletes may have on a target market particularly in Kenya. This study therefore looks at the effect of athlete credibility on product endorsement among manufacturing firms in Kenya. The study employs a cross sectional survey research design. The target population is comprised of all the marketing officers in the 625 manufacturing firms in Kenya. A sample of 166 respondents is drawn from the target population to participate in the study. Simple random sampling is used to select 166 firms to take part in the research. The study uses structured questionnaires that are distributed to the 166 marketing officers. The questionnaire was pilot tested before commencing data collection to help in removing errors and enhance clarity. The questionnaire was further tested for validity and reliability. Data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 24. Analysis was done using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics were used in the form of percentages, frequencies and mean scores. Hypothesis testing was done using chi-square statistics. The study findings established that athlete credibility have a significant influence on brand endorsement. Thus it was concluded that athlete credibility is greatly important in brand endorsement as a marketing strategy. It was therefore recommended that manufacturing companies should ensure they choose the right celebrity as they play a huge role in how customers view both advertisement and the brand.

Abstract:The general objective of this study was to find out the effect of human resource management practices on employee’s performance in public hospitals in Kenya, with a case study of Nairobi County. The study has four specific research objectives: to establish the effects of HR planning on employee’s performance in public hospitals in Kenya; to find out the effects of recruitment and selection on employee’s performance in public hospitals in Kenya; to determine the effects of training and development on employee’s performance in public hospitals in Kenya and finally to examine the effects of reward system on employee’s performance in public hospitals in Kenya. This study was descriptive in nature and the researcher will use case study method. The study will be undertaken at Nairobi County. The use of 150 respondents in the study will be justified as it was in line with the recommendations of Mugenda and Mugenda (2009) who indicated that a descriptive study should include at least 30% of the total population. The researcher used questionnaires and secondary data as the research instrument to gather the relevant information needed related to the study. The study carried out a pilot test to test the validity and reliability of the questionnaires in gathering the data required for purposes of the study. The data collected was analyzed using quantitative methods, applying descriptive statistical methods to manipulate it and present the findings in percentages in figures and tables. The study concluded that HR planning had a significant and positive influence on the employee’s performance. This implies that a strong human resource planning can enhance employees performing up to the standards envisioned in the organization plan. The study further concluded that recruitment and selection had significant and a positive impact on the employee performance. This implies that for every unit increase in recruitment and selection increases staff performance. The study also established that training and development had significant and a positive effect on staff Performance. These results indicate that the training and development programs was effective in influencing staff Performance. Finally, the study concluded reward system has a significant and a positive influence on the employee Performance. This result indicates that strong reward system is effective enough to enable the improvement in employee performance. It is recommended that the public hospitals in the country should plan well for their future human resource needs in order to mitigate any negative impacts as a result of demographics, government priorities and competency requirements. The study also recommends that the recruitment and selection process should be objective as much as possible in the public hospitals. Job specifications should, therefore, be developed and strictly adhered to during the recruitment and selection process. There is also need to have interview panels in the public hospitals that are professional and not biased. Public hospitals in the country should, therefore, look for better ways of vetting these panels in order to ascertain their integrity. It is also recommended that the public hospitals in Kenya invest in their human capital through constant training and development, since this will empower employees and enhance their sense of attachment to the business. The study finally recommends that public hospitals in Kenya should improve the reward treatment of its employees. It should improve the overall salary packages of employees. The study further recommends that the management should recognize the right kind of incentive to their staff so that the employees get highly motivated to put their best effort towards completing their jobs.

Abstract:Kenya has moved from being a low tax burden country to a high tax burden country, yet the country faces the obvious need for more tax revenues to maintain public services. Given the high tax burden, prospects to raise additional revenue seem bleak. Therefore, the study examined the effect of tax incentives policy on optimal revenue collections in KRA. The theoretical base for the study was founded on economic deterrence model. The study applied positivism research philosophy. Descriptive correlational research design was employed in the study. The target population comprised of all the revenue officers working in the 34 KRA stations in the six regions across the country. The study sampled a total of 313 revenue officers in 34 KRA stations. The study used both primary and secondary data. Questionnaires containing close ended questions were used in the collection of primary data. The collected data was analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 24 computer software. Descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics were used in data analysis. Data was presented in charts and tables accompanied by relevant discussions of the findings. Findings from the correlations indicated that tax incentives had a significant influence on optimal revenue collection. Regression analysis indicated that tax incentives had a significant influence on revenue collection. The study concluded that tax incentives were important in determining optimal revenue collection in KRA. The study recommended that KRA should make optimum use of tax incentives to encourage more investments thus enhancing the tax collection bracket.

Abstract:Banks are the link between savings from savers and productive activities by borrowers.  A  sound, competent and  productive  banking  sector  helps to overcome  economic turbulence  by  making  financial  resources  accessible  to  economic needs. External environmental factors play a key role towards this achievement. The wanting achievements in the banking sector has been attached to several problems; such as Political instability, economic turbulence, technological obsolescence among others (Obadan, 2004). The Kenyan Central Bank has provided Prudential Guideline on how banks should tackle these challenges. Most of the studies show that there is a mixed signal in relation to this study area. The heart of this study was the environmental factors that affect the performance in the Kenyan banks. It employed descriptive research design and use secondary data on market power, exchange rate fluctuations, technology use by the customers of the listed banks in Kenya. Data analysis was done using Stata (version 13) program.  A regression model was run for externalenvironmental factors on the financial performance. To measure the effects of environmental factors, the Market share, exchange rate fluctuation and non-branch transaction ratio were regressed on Returns on Asset. The non-stationarity assumptions were violated and so the researcher used VECM. The study finds that one unit change in the factors bears an increase in financial performance banks listed in the NSE. Only two of the factors are significant in explaining long term changes in the rate of financial performance in Kenya’s’ listed banks.

Abstract:Financial statements are the mirror which reflects the financial position and strengths and weakness of the concern. The agricultural sectors in the country as a whole as undergoes various up and downs in the recent past, every business needs to view the financial performance analysis and cash flow management very important for the day to day running of firms. The study was done in Agricultural development corporation units in Kitale region. The main aim of the study was to examine the impact of cash flow management on performance of the agricultural firms in trans-Nzoia County. The study geared towards establishing the effect of stable and healthy liquidity on the performance of agricultural firms in trans-Nzoia County. The study was anchored on the trade-off theory, pecking order theory, free cash flow theory and the agency theory. The study adopted descriptive design. Data obtained was cleaned, coded and analyzed usingspss version 21software. Multiple regressions model/analysis was used to determine the relationship between the independent variables and dependent variable. The results were presented using inferential statistics such as the Pierson correlation coefficients, comparative tables and percentages. Findings emanating from this study will be of great importance to all the direct and indirect stakeholders who play key roles in the support of agricultural development corporations to policy formulation. Data emanating from this study revealed that healthy and stable liquidity has a significant influence on the performance of agricultural firms in Trans Nzoia County. The interpretation of correlation coefficient showed that healthy and stable liquidity has significant influence on performance of agricultural firms in Trans Nzoia County at p= 0.003 or P<0.05. This means that the null hypothesis (H_o1): healthy and stable liquidity has no significant influence on performance of agricultural firms in Trans Nzoia County will be rejected. The alternative hypothesis (H_A1) is true: The healthy and stable liquidity has a significant influence on performance of agricultural firms in Trans Nzoia County.

Abstract:In a highly competitive and dynamic global environment, organizations are constantly under pressure to retain their workforce. Highly skilled, reliable and experienced employees are a valuable asset for any organization. The rationale for hiring of professionals and experienced personnel to work in organizations has been applied in many organizations yet employee performance in Kenya is still wanting. Hence this study examines the effect of employee motivation on employee performance in non-profit organization in Kenya: A case Study of The Fred Hollows Foundation Kenya. The specific objectives included; monetary compensation, promotions, recognition and lastly supervision on the employee performance in Non-profit organizations in Kenya. The population for this study consisted of all employees at The Fred Hollow Foundation Kenya. The total target population was 150. A total of 45 respondents was used as the sample size for the study. Descriptive survey design research design was used in this study. Primary and secondary data was used. While self-administered questionnaire and interview guide were used to collect primary data, the study reviewed the previous evaluation reports to seek the secondary data on performance. The data collected was then analyzed by both descriptive and inferential statistical tools. Being that the current study was dealing with the relationship study, the study therefore used regression model as a tool of analysis and the results generated were presented in form of tables. The results established that monetary compensation, promotion, supervision and recognition affected employee performance. The study further recommended that clear policies on compensation, promotion and recognition should be documented. The study also recommended employment of competent staff which will make work easier and encourage better performance.

Abstract:There are numerous challenges that have faced the coffee industry globally over the years some of which are: economic pressures to the coffee sectors such as unfavorable and volatile exchange rates, global and regional economic crises, increasing cost of essential factors of coffee production as well as management factors. Leadership is a critical element used to formulate and implement the strategy. It is a link that relates the soul of organization with its body. This study sought to investigate the effects of leadership on strategy implementation in organizations. More specifically the study analyzed the effects of leadership style, leadership structure, leadership communication and leadership support on strategy implementation in an organization. The study focused on coffee factories in Kiambu County.  A sample size of five departments in the firm were targeted using random selection of managers in all levels and employees to be interviewed using open ended questionnaires. Quantitative data on the relative importance of each of the four variables to implementation of strategy was analyzed using simple multivariate linear regression model by Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study examined the effects of leadership on strategy implementation on Coffee Factories in Kiambu County thus establishing the relationship between leadership and strategy implementation. The results indicated a positive correlation for leadership style, leadership structure, leadership support and a negative correlation for leadership communication. Based on the findings the study concluded that leadership style, leadership structure, leadership support were good measures for leadership that affect implementation of strategies. The study recommends that leaders should be responsible for formulating and communicating the strategy but also remember that responsibility doesn't stop there. They must also manage the alignment of people for strategy implementation. This study should be advanced further to include other ingredients that are key to strategy implementation in order to establish the degree to which each ingredient influences strategy implementation.

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of strategic management practices on the performance of State Corporation in Kenya. Four specific objectives formed the basis of study and these were: to examine the effect of strategic leadership, strategic planning, strategic innovation and resources availability on firm’s performance in public sector in Kenya. The theories included: stakeholder theory, goal theory, fit theory and Juran’s Approach to TQM theory. The target population was considered to be 200 employees from Kenya Pipeline Company. However, the respondents were selected from different departments of procurement, finance, human resource management and corporate services. The sample size of the study was considered to be 60 employees within the Kenya Pipeline Company which was arrived at in reference to other scholar’s provisions. Quantitative research design was adopted for the study. The questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument. Data analysis and interpretation was also performed based on descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics mainly regression analysis, Pearson correlation and alpha Cronbach which were used to test reliability and validity of the instruments. The finding indicated that strategic leadership, strategic planning, strategic innovation and strategic quality management had impacted majorly in organizational performance and so strategic management practices plays a great role in organizational performance. The study recommended training, skill development and strategic approaches in strategic management practices.

Abstract:The General objective of this research is to assess the effects of credit risk management on loan performance of commercial banks in Kenya. The specific objectives of this project is to establish the effect of capital adequacy Ratio, Loan Loss Provision Coverage ratio and Loan to Deposit Ratio on loan performance of commercial banks in Kenya. The study adoptedsecondary data analysisresearch design. The observations used dated from January the year 2012 to December 2017 and includes 48 observations. The population was composed of all the 8 tier one banks in Kenya. The data was obtained from Kenya National Bureau of statistics, the central bank and audited financial statements of individual banks. Correlation and multiple regression was employed as the analytical tools. The study has been driven by the absence of laborious studies that address the dynamics of the loan performance in commercial banks in Kenya. The research is also motivated by the mixed results that various previous researchers got for the same types of the variables. The study will also help other researchers as a source of reference and as a stepping stone for those who want to make further study on the area afterwards. It will also contribute to the understanding and stabilization of the financial sector of the economy and the society as a whole. It will also give all stakeholders in the sector an opportunity to gain deep. The study concluded that capital adequacy has a significant and a positive effect on the loan performance of commercial banks in Kenya that higher capital adequacy ratios translated to higher loan performance. Since both effects were significant, it can be concluded that loan performance of commercial banks in Kenya is influenced by capital adequacy. The study concluded that loan loss provision is found significantly associated with the loan performance of commercial banks in Kenya. The results suggest that higher loan loss provision led to better loan performance of commercial banks. The effects were significant hence lead to the conclusion that loan performance of commercial banks is influenced by loan loss provision. The study concluded that Loan deposit ratio is found significantly associated with the loan performance of commercial banks in Kenya. The results suggest that higher loan deposit ratio led to better loan performance of commercial banks. The effects were significant hence lead to the conclusion that loan performance of commercial banks is influenced by Loan deposit ratio. Based on the finding of the study, the researcher concluded that capital adequacy has a positive and a significant relationship with loan performance of commercial banks in Kenya. The study recommends that investors and shareholders of commercial banks should be aware of possible use of provisions for losses on non-performing loans by managers for smoothening of loan performance & develop financial reporting models that can help prevent occurrence of the menace. The study recommends that management of commercial banks should hedge against Moral hazard and adverse selection risks when advancing loans to minimize occurrences of nonperforming loans.

Abstract:Road transportation majorly in the developing Countries can be a maker of economic development of an area for it provides the back infrastructure for any kind of investment and the harnessing of its economic potential (Lampe, 1985). Roads make a crucial contribution to economic development and growth and bring important social benefits. They are of vital importance in order to make a nation grow and develop. In addition, providing access to employment, social, health and education services makes a road network crucial in fighting against poverty. Roads open up more areas and stimulate economic and social development. In respect to these values that Roads add to human lives, each country in this World is struggling to build more road networks in quest for development. However, for this noble course to be realized, there are some important persons who must be incorporated known as “Stakeholders”. Stakeholder management is one of the most essential part of project management, for they might cause a change in project characteristics (time, design and budget) at the time of construction to which has been experienced inKenya through their influence or poor participation in the project.This research paper was carried out in Nakuru County Kenya of Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA with the intention of determining the impacts caused by the influences of stakeholders in these projects. The Descriptive study methods, convergent design was used. Open-ended and close-ended structured questionnaires, were used in data collection. Simple random and systematic sampling was used to select the respondents. Key Informant Interviews (KII) was conducted on 400 respondents consisting of directors of the project, supervisors, Engineers and members of the public. Data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) computer software.Univariate analysis and multiple logistic regression shall be performed to determine the association between the independent and the outcome variable and to control for potential confounders. The findings of the study shall be of great significance in policy formulation, proper management and planning purposes in skillful development.

Abstract:Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of most economies in the world. Most of these companies use external financing sources like debt and equity capital to finance their activities. However, in general, in the area of SMEs’ access to finance, there are market imperfections - not only in times of crisis, but on an on-going basis as a fundamental structural issue, based on uncertainty and asymmetric information between the demand side (entrepreneur) and the supply side (financial intermediary). The objective of this research was to find out the effect of lease finance conditions on the financial performance of small and medium sized enterprises in Kenya. In this research the researcher analyzed the effect that various conditions of lease finance have on the financial performance of the SMEs. This study used descriptive research design as it sought to establish the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Data collection was done through questionnaires and analyzed by SPSS. The study concluded that for the SMEs to acquire a good cash flow developed from its increased liquidity they must embrace flexible lease charges. Flexible lease charges improve company’s budgetary planning and even its control which are the desired ingredients for financial performance of SMEs.

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of strategy implementation practices on the performance of Civil Registration department, Kenya; a case study of TransNzoia County. The specific objective of the study was to determine the effect of accessibility of staff on the performance of Civil Registration department in Trans Nzoia County. The study was grounded on public administration theory and contingency theory. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The target population for the study comprised of 69respondents including employees and applicants for birth and death certificates in Trans Nzoia County, Kenya. The study did not sample but took the entire population because the target population was small therefore it used census. Data collection instrument was questionnaire. A 5 Likerts scale was used. A pilot study was carried out in West Pokot County to test the validity and reliability of the data collection instruments. Validity was tested through supervisor’s comments and advice while their reliability was ensured through Cronbach’s alpha. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and represented in tables and figures. Regression analysis was used. The study results revealed that there was a significant relationship between accessibility of staff and performance of Civil Registration department. The study concluded that proper training of staff (employees) provides them with the required skills and knowledge hence improved standards of services to clients .The study recommended that the Civil registration department should ensure that the organizational culture is aligned to its goals in terms of customer satisfaction through effective performance .The Civil registration department should ensure that it aligns its training needs of staff to organization goals and objectives. The study will be of significance to the management of the department of Civil Registration since it will give them insight on how they can utilize strategy implementation practices to improve on the levels of performance in terms of service delivery to the public.

Abstract:Business success depends heavily on the ability of financial managers to effectively manage the components of working capital. This study arose from the need to manage working capital of orchards more effectively and efficiently – keeping viability and continuity in view. The purpose of the study was to examine the determinants of working capital management on financial performance of orchards in Kenya: A case study of Mount Elgon Orchards. The study was guided by the following specific objective; to establish the effects of accounts payable management on financial performance of Mount Elgon Orchards, The study’s theory applied was Financing Theory, Risk Return trade-off theory and Liquidity Theory. A descriptive survey design was used in this study. The research population included the management, heads of departments, assistant heads of departments and employees of Mount Elgon Orchards working in the Finance Department only. The study employed census sampling technique and the sample size of the study included 22 respondents. The instrument that was used to collect primary data was self-administered structured questionnaires. This study used descriptive and inferential statistics in data analysis. Collected data was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SSPS 21). Analyzed data was presented in form tables, graphs and pie charts.The study concluded that accounts payables management had strong positive effects on financial performance of Mount Elgon Orchards. The firm received credit facilities from their suppliers, cash discounts from suppliers upon payment within a stipulated period of time and payment period allowed by their suppliers was reasonable. However, they were at times charged with an interest and sometimes unable to pay their suppliers. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher recommended the following: firms should reduce the receivables collection period by accelerating debt collections, firms should also try to negotiate good credit terms with their suppliers to cushion against the receivable period granted to trade debtors in order to prevent them from cash inadequacy and its related problems.

Abstract:It’s been reported that county governments lack sufficient capacities to manage county employees as well as existence of ghost workers. This has hampered employees’ performance in the county governments. The research wanted to ascertain the influence of job satisfaction HR practices on performance of employees in the county government of Baringo, Kenya. The research was premised on Hertzberg’s Two Factor Theory adopting a Descriptive research design with a target population of 530 employees. A sample of 133 employees was computed using Yamane formula and they were selected using random sampling techniques. A questionnaire constructed on a five point scale of Likert type items was used for primary data collection. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The study established a strong positive significant relationship between job satisfaction HR practices and employee performance and that Job satisfaction HR practices significantly accounted for 48.1% of the variation in employee performance. Therefore the study concluded that job satisfaction practices significantly influenced employee performance. The study recommended that the county government come up with policy frameworks to help in informing the process of HR service practices. This will be appropriate in ensuring that sufficient services are acquired through HR practices.

Abstract:Many companies have gone into bankruptcy despite using different prediction models. Despite their good rating, they are still prone to financial distress problems. Thus this study sought to establish the influence of debt equity ratio on management of financial distress in supermarkets in Nakuru town, Kenya. The theory used in the study was Pecking Order Theoryemploying descriptive research design. The target population included 182 management and finance officers. Nassiuma (2000) formula was used to sample 80 respondents from the 182 management and finance officers. Data was collected through the use of questionnaires. Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 24 was used for analyzing the collected data. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The study established that debt equity ratio had a positive significant relationship of r=0.538 with financial distress management. The study concluded that debt equity ratio has significant influence on financial distress management in supermarkets in Nakuru town, Kenya. The study recommended that the management in retail chain supermarkets develop policies to guide the determination of debt equity ratio in financing the activities of the business. This will ensure a proper balance between equity and debt which will ensure proper financial distress management.

Abstract:Work-life balance policies define how the organization intends to allow employees greater flexibility in their working patterns so that they can balance what they do at work with the responsibilities and interests they have outside work. The study examined the influence of flexible working schedules on organizational commitment of employees in the department of health services in Nakuru, Kenya. Theory underpinning this study was Tri-Dimensional Organizational Commitment Theory. The study employed a descriptive research design. The targeted population of this study was 652 employees from 15 hospitals in Nakuru town. A sampling technique was used where 86 employees were selected to serve as the target population of the study. Questionnaires constructed on a five point likert scale format were used for data collection. The questionnaires were tested for validity and reliability where Cronbach’s coefficient Alpha was computed for the instrument. Statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the collected data. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics which included frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation and inferential statistics which included regression and correlation analysis. The analyzed data was presented in form of tables accompanied by relevant discussions. The findings indicated that flexible work schedules have a weak positive significant (r=.237, p=.039) relationship with organizational commitment. The study concluded that flexible work schedules significantly influence the organizational commitment of employees in public hospitals in Nakuru town. The study recommended the management of the public hospitals should come up with work structures that allow for flexible work schedules. This would enhance the working efficiency of workers since they will be able to plan their time to meet their individual commitments and work commitments.

Abstract:Our study focuses on the impact of North-South relations in the specific case of France's relations with the Central African Republic (CAR). As part of this study, we analyze some of the actions taken by France for the development of CAR. These actions come from a survey data we conducted in Bangui in 2018 with 624 people. Through this study, we study the benefits that CAR has got from its relations with France. These advantages are reflected in the impact of the actions taken by France in the country as part of its presence in the field of natural resources. Our observation is that the presence of foreign powers in the field of natural resources is conditioned by the achievement of certain actions in diverse fields. We also found that the conclusion of contracts proposed by French companies is not made on a win-win basis. However, our results indicate that France has conducted many actions in CAR that have had a positive impact on the sample. Through this study, we show the importance of solidifying historical partnerships in South-South relations. Also, this study tends to highlight the importance of the evolution of the characteristics of North-South relations traditionally based on unbalanced agreements. Beyond France, this article concerns other states wishing to invest in the CAR (also in other African countries). It invites them to adopt the principle of mutually beneficial cooperation in order to better participate in the development of a poor country.

Abstract:The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are targeted at eradicating extreme hunger and poverty in the 189 member countries of the United Nations (UN). Poverty is not new but at each mention, it stirs a lot of misgiving. This is because it has a very devastating influence on its victims. The purpose of this study was to assess factors influencing the implementation of poverty alleviation policies in west Pokot County, Kenya. The study was guided by the following specific objective: To determine the effects of good governance on implementation poverty alleviation policies in West Pokot County. The study was supported by the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory. Descriptive survey design will be used. The survey will be conducted in west Pokot County. The population of study comprised of 190 policy implementation respondents from west pokot county, Kenya. A simple random sampling was used to get respondents for the study. This generated 95 respondents. Data was collected using predesigned semi-structured questionnaires. Data obtained was cleaned, coded and analyzed usingspss version 21software. Multiple regressions model/analysis was used to determine the relationship between the independent variables and dependent variable. The results were presented using inferential statistics such as the Pierson correlation coefficients, comparative tables and percentages. Findings emanating from this study will be of great importance to all the direct and indirect stakeholders who play key roles in ensuring the ultimate accomplishment and realization of the Kenya Vision 2030 development blue print. The results will as well be essential in county and national governments developing strong monitoring and evaluation frameworks to help analyze the various factors influencing successful implementation of poverty alleviation policies in west Pokot count y and also other counties for economic balancing.The results of correlation showed that there was a partial positive and statistically significant correlation between poverty reduction policies implementationand good governance(r= 0.118, p= 0.005), Stakeholders participation (r= 0.132, p= 0.029) and policy implementation challenges(r= 0.030, p= 0.023).

Abstract:Privatisation policy has been found to be the solution to inefficiency and ineffectiveness that characterised the public services like electricity service delivery in Nigeria particularly in Ekiti State.  However, the problem of the poor performance of electricity service delivery in Ekiti State emerged from non-adherence to the tenets of due diligence procedure in the privatisation planning process. The paper aimed to foster the indispensability of due diligence procedure in the privatisation of electricity for effective service delivery. Relevant literature on the concept of due diligence procedure and its influence on the privatisation of electricity for effective service delivery were exhaustively explored in this paper. The principles of due diligence as found from the literature were measured against the privatisation planning process of electricity service delivery in Nigeria and the findings showed lopsidedness as the principles of due diligence were not thoroughly adhered to. The paper thereby recommended all-inclusive and comprehensive privatisation planning process that entails all the tenets of due diligence procedure in the privatisation of electricity for effective service delivery.

Abstract:Educational leadership has been engaged in international literature and research in recent years, especially in its role in promoting democracy and its values at school units. The contribution of school units is considered important for the strengthening of democracy and its values, especially in countries such as Greece, which is currently facing major social and economic problems that have a negative impact on the quality of democracy. A basic conclusion emerging from the international literature is that the promotion of democracy and its values at school units requires, among other things, the redefinition of the role of the educational leadership so that the members of school units can contribute to the creation of a participatory democratic culture through changing attitudes and practices in school units. For this purpose, it is considered necessary to implement a model of democratic distributed leadership aimed at transforming school culture and further democratizing it through the promotion of collective democratic moral aims and values, such as participation, cooperation, consultation and respect for the freedoms and rights of all members of the school community. This goal can be achieved through the educational interaction between teachers, students and the principal, so that everyone can, through their individual action, contribute to the creation of a democratic school culture. In this paper we examine the role of teachers in the promotion of democracy in the Greek School in the light of their participation in democratic distributed leadership. For that reason, we conducted a survey that explores teachers' attitudes towards promoting democratic principles and values in the school environment. For the implementation of this research proposal, we used the survey method using questionnaires in a sample of 400 teachers in 80 secondary education school units of Aitoloakarnania Regional Unity. The results of the survey showed that teachers lack the necessary knowledge of democracy and its values and that they do not, through their attitudes, have the mood to contribute to the development of a democratic distributed leadership in the particular school units where our research was implemented.

Abstract:Working capital management is considered to be an important element in determining the financial performance of an organization. In this study, the purpose was to investigate working capital management and their effect on financial performance among savings and credit cooperative societies in Kiambu County, Kenya. Specifically to establish how receivables management and Cash management influences financial performance of SACCOS and extent to which accounts payable management influences financial performance of SACCOS in Kiambu County. Inventory management was not be considered since these institutions don’t have inventories. The target population for this study consisted of all SACCOS in Kiambu County licensed as at December, 2016 by Ministry of Trade, industry and Co-operatives and the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA). A total population of 35 SACCOS was studied. Using descriptive research design, a total of 35 managerial staff members from the 35 SACCOs were targeted by way of completing a structured questionnaire. Primary and secondary data was collected. Secondary data was collected from SACCOS’ financial statements and other financial records using document review guide. Data was processed and then analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The study concluded that cash management had a negative but significant effect on financial performance of SACCOS in Kiambu County. Deloof (2003), contend in their working capital management principle that the larger the cash conversions cycle the greater the investment held in working capital. The study also concluded that accounts receivable management had a negative but significant effect on financial performance of SACCOS in Kiambu County. The study further concluded that accounts receivable management had a negative but significant effect on financial performance of SACCOS in Kiambu County. The study makes a number of recommendations. First, the study recommends that SACCOS in Kiambu County should reduce their average cash collection period in order to improve their financial performance. The study also recommends that SACCOS in Kiambu County should reduce their receivables collection period in order to improve their financial performance. The study further recommends that SACCOS in Kiambu County should increase their average payable period in order to improve their financial performance. Increasing the average payable period for the suppliers will reduce the amount of cash moving out and this will release the funds for other profitable ventures which in turn will enhance the financial performance.

Abstract:Tanzania has long existed as one of Africa’s most religiously and ethnically diverse states. There are over 100 different linguistic groups in the nation, and over 130 different tribes. In terms of religion, the country is essentially split between those who practice Christianity, and those who follow Islam. Still others devote themselves to animism and other native religious practices.  The majority of Christians in Tanzania are Catholic, and make up a small majority of those living on the mainland. In Zanzibar, a semi-autonomous island of Tanzania, a vast majority of the population follows the teachings of Islam. For centuries Tanzania provided a case study in religious and ethnic relations in Africa, as each group has been relatively successful in maintaining peace with one another. However, during the past decade, we have witnessed a change. Tensions, particularly between Christians and Muslims, are on the rise. Extremist groups have gathered steam in Tanzania and the region, which has caused Christians to become anxious of their situation in the country.

Abstract:Attitude towards Taxation system has always been an issue that leads to tax compliance among business taxpayers in many developing countries including Kenya.. The main purpose of this paper was to examine the attitudes of business tax payers on the taxation system in Kenya. The data for this study was collected using a well structured questionnaire from 149 respondents who comprised owners of SMEs in Nyamira Town. By applying simple percentages and descriptive statistics, the data collected was analysed. The Findings indicated that still many tax payers perceive the Kenyan tax system as unfair to Kenyans. Also, it was revealed that significant number of respondents indicated that their neighbors are paying tax honestly. This study concluded that public awareness needs to be conducted to inform taxpayers about the importance of paying tax and how tax is important in economic development of a nation like Kenya.

Abstract:Adoption and Implementation of National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) has always been popular in the recent years. Many hospitals and other health facilities have adopted the medical cover since users have increased because the government of Kenya made it compulsory that every employee in the country must get a deduction towards the cover. This paper is an attempt to investigate the usefulness of the NHIF scheme in Kenya from the perspectives of Health workers. The findings indicated that the hypothesis  stating that there was no significant difference in perceived usefulness between gender groups of health workers holds since f – value in all cases was less than critical value at 5 percent level of significance (P > 0.05), hence leading to the acceptance of the stated hypothesis. The study concluded that a lot must be done to increase the understanding about the usefulness of NHIF to patients in Health facilities. More training and seminars needs to be arranged for health workers to provide vast experience on NHIF dealings.
