Abstract: The study was conducted to assess quality of marital life among the wives of alcoholic dependents at selected de addiction center, Puducherry. A non experimental descriptive design was carried out and wives whose husbands meet with diagnostic criteria of alcoholic dependent syndrome as per ICD-10 were selected by using purposive sampling technique. In this study, the level of quality of marital life  was assessed by using marital quality scale developed by Shah (1995).The results revealed that the percentage distribution level of quality of marital life  among the wives of alcoholic dependents were with moderate quality of about 62%.

Abstract: This study was carried out to assessed the prevalence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa on the recommended glasses of selected volunteers in Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Sagamu Campus.  A cross-sectional survey of 100 selected volunteers comprises 43males and 57 females were examined. A total of 30 (30%) were found to have Pseudomonas aeruginosa on their contact lenses, of which 13(43.3%) of the isolates were pigmented and 17(56.7%) were non pigmented isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Eighty percent (80%) of the isolates were susceptible to ciprofloxacin, 63% to ceftazidime while 50% were susceptible to ofloxacin. The isolates were totally resistant to augmentin and ampicillin, while 97% resistant to gentamicin and 70% resistant ton nitrofurantoin were recorded in this study. Thus, ciprofloxacin and ceftazidime could be recommended for the management of Pseudomonas aeruginosa on contact lenses.

Abstract: Evolution of landforms of any basin is due to its diversity in lithology, geological structures and their impact on drainage pattern. Thalisan area is combination of two basin (partially) Western and Eastern Nayar and Bino, the area has a distinctive landform-ecology. The landforms are severely deteriorated by geo catastrophic processes like landslide, rockfall, soil creep and debris flow. Impact of morphological characters on the terrain is reflected by drainagebasin of the area. The repetitive calculated values of all the morphometric parameters of different litho-tectonic zones were processed. The quantitative study of these morphometric parameters suggests that the basin shape, stream density, relief, ruggedness, stream frequency and circularity index are controlled by altitude and climateas well as nature of bed rocks. The morphometric parameters like absolute relief, relative relief, dissection index, drainage texture, drainage frequency and slope were analysised and superimposed to workout homogeneity in landforms units.

Abstract:  Water is crucial factor in our life. It is one of fundamental needs of human being. As far as our health is concerned the water should be fit for drinking, it should not contain any undesirable substances rendering it unfit for drinking and domestic use. For such water we have to depend on sources of water such as river, lake , well etc. but to make it upto the standards of drinking water it should be treated1. In big cities municipal corporation supplies water to the people after treating it in treatment plant. In pimpri & chinchwad city PCMC treats and supplies water to city. Corporation divided city in 46 sectors to distribute water. Samples were collected from each of these sectors and conducted various tests such as hardness test, chloride content test, etc. To examine the contamination of water at tap sources. In this study it was found that the water is pure up to all standards except residual chlorine in certain sectors. Abstract: The conventional vehicle suspension dissipates the mechanical energy i.e. potential and kinetic energy. In spring potential energy is stored and kinetic energy is wasted. The aim of paper is this wasted energy is compressed by using single acting cylinder by proper arrangement. The main aim of this paper is the compressed air production using vehicle suspension is given to the air conditioning system. The pushing power is converted into compressed air energy by proper arrangement .The pneumatic single acting cylinder is used for this project to compress the air. The output air from the pneumatic cylinder is collected through quick exhaust valve and non return valve and this compressed air stored inside the storage tank. After this research we concluded in car there is a lot of fuel burn only for working of A.C. while driving the car. If A.C. will run on other system rather than fuel then there is lot of fuel save in car hence the efficiency of car will also increases.

Abstract: Developing countries like ours where the growth in the number of vehicles is almost in a geometrical progression while the requisite infrastructure to cater to this tremendous growth is not developed.  Traffic Police constable job involves daily traffic regulation. Development of work related musculoskeletal disorder(WRMSDs) in this population may have substantial impact on city traffic regulation. To the best of our knowledge, no studies have explored the occurrence of different musculoskeletal complaints in traffic police. Therefore the aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of WRMSDs in Traffic Police population. A cross-sectional design was adopted; The Nordic musculoskeletal questionnaire was used to assess self reported musculoskeletal complaints. Traffic Police working in Navi Mumbai area (n=270) formed the population of this study. Quantitative data were analyzed in percentage form. We concluded from study back pain is most common symptom. Decreasing shift durations or offering health educational programs may be suitable solutions. However, further studies are required to assess the relationship between WRMSDs and workload- related factors.

Abstract: The daily rainfall data of Hassan district of Karnataka for last 39 years (1971-2009) were analyzed to study its variability. Being a part of the semi-arid region it receives mean annual rainfall of 784.6 mm with 28.2 per cent variability. The contributing from winter, pre-monsoon, monsoon and post monsoon period to the total rainfall was 0.8, 8.3, 56.5 and 23.3 per cent, respectively. Each standard meteorological week (SMW) from 18th to 45th  receive  a rainfall of above 20 mm with less variability (within 145%) indicating the crop growing period from 1st  fortnight of May to 1st fortnight of November. The monthly mean rainfall was observed to be 87.2, 106.6, 126.3, 101.3, 109.0, 127.5 and 46.5 for May, June, July, August, September, October and November months, respectively. The trend analysis of rainfall indicated that, the mean annual rainfall was more or less similar since 1971, however, the variability was showed increasing trend from 1971-1980 to 2001-2009. Being a semi-arid climate, Hassan district was frequently affected by periodical drought and the study indicated out of past 39 years 5years were experienced the slight drought (-19 to -25% D from N), 5 years were falls under moderate drought (-26 to -50% D from N) and one year (1996) was severe drought with -72.3% deviation from Normal.

Abstract: The daily rainfall data of Mandya district of Karnataka for last 37 years (1973-2009) were analyzed to study its variability. Being a part of the semi-arid region it receives mean annual rainfall of 684.4 mm with 29.5 per cent variability. The contributing from winter, pre-monsoon, monsoon and post monsoon period to the total rainfall was 1.3, 9.3, 44.8 and 32.1 per cent. Each standard meteorological week (SMW) from 21st  to 44th receive  a rainfall of above 20 mm with less variability (within 200%) indicating the crop growing period from 2nd fortnight of May to 2nd fortnight of October. The monthly mean rainfall was observed to be 85.2, 56.8, 49.0, 68.9, 132.4 and 159.2 for May, June, July, August, September and October months, respectively. The trend analysis of rainfall indicated that, the mean annual rainfall was more or less similar since 1971, however, the variability was showed increasing trend. Being a semi-arid climate, Mandya district was frequently affected by periodical drought and the study indicated out of past 37 years,  4 years were experienced the slight drought (-19 to -25% D from N) and 6 years were falls under moderate drought (-26 to -50% D from N). Whereas, year 1990 was affected due to severe drought with -56.5 deviation in rainfall than normal.

Abstract:The daily rainfall data of Mysore district of Karnataka for last 39 years (1971-2009) were analyzed to study its variability. Being a part of the semi-arid region it receives mean annual rainfall of 834.2 mm with 25.8 per cent variability. The contributing from winter, pre-monsoon, monsoon and post monsoon period to the total rainfall was 1.2, 11.0, 43.7 and 28.1 per cent. Each standard meteorological week (SMW) from 16th to 46th  receive  a rainfall of above 20 mm with less variability (within 150%) indicating the crop growing period from 2nd fortnight of April to 2nd  fortnight of November. The monthly mean rainfall was observed to be 75.7, 133.0, 75.5, 79.6, 88.2, 120.9, 159.4 and 60.6 for April, May, June, July, August, September October and November months, respectively. The trend analysis of rainfall indicated that, the mean annual rainfall was changing since 1971with increasing trend in variability in alternative 10 years cycle. Being a semi-arid climate, Mysore district was frequently affected by periodical drought and the study indicated out of past 39 years, one year was slight drought (-19 to -25% D from N) and 6 years were falls under moderate drought (-26 to -50% D from N).

Abstract: The objective of the study was to investigate and compare the radioprotective effect of  hydroalcoholic extract (HAE) and methanol fraction (MF) of  Tamarindus indica  pod in mice against electron beam radiation. Animals were treated with 100 mg/Kg body weight of HAE and MF of T.  indica for 15 consecutive days before exposing to 6Gy (sublethal dose) whole body EBR. The irradiation of animals resulted in an elevation in lipid peroxidation and reduction in glutathione, total antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase activities. Irradiated group had shown micronucleus in the bone marrow cells. Treatment of mice with HAE and MF before irradiation, reduced the symptoms of radiation sickness when compared with the irradiated group. Pretreated mice showed a significant reduction in lipid peroxidation followed by elevation in reduced glutathione, total antioxidants and antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and catalase. It also showed a reduction in the micronucleus formation in bone marrow cells. The findings of our study indicate the protective efficacy of  HAE and MF on radiation induced biochemical and chromosomal changes in mice may be due to its free radical scavenging and increased antioxidant levels. It also reveals MF, a better protective agent than that of HAE of T.  indica.
