Abstract: Agricultural projects play a pivotal role in the economic development of Kenya, and their success or failure can have far-reaching consequences for both local communities and the national economy. Effective project management practices are essential in ensuring the achievement of project goals and objectives (Kimalu, 2011). The purpose of this study was to determine the project management practices on success of Sony Sugar Projects. The study’s specific objectives for this study were; to determine the effect of project planning on success of Sony Sugar Company Project, to determine the effect of stakeholder participation on success of Sony sugar Company projects and to assess the influence of Monitoring and evaluation on success of Sony Sugar Company. The study was guided by resource based theory.  The study adopted a descriptive research design with a target population of 5000 respondents and a sample size of 800 through Yammene formula.  The data collection instrument was a structured questionnaire. Piloting was done to test the validity and reliability of the data collection instrument. Data analysis was done. A regression analysis was conducted to establish the correlation between the variables. The findings revealed that project planning has a significant effect on success of Sony Sugar Projects.  In conclusion basing on the study findings, the study came up with the following conclusions; a review of the findings also shows that a unit increase in project planning will lead to a 0.434 increase in project success when all other independent variables are held constant. The study recommended that Sony Sugar Company should have a clear plan on setting up of their objectives in readiness for proper implementation at each point in time and to work on budgetary allocation for each activity.  Project supervisors should ensure that all activities planned are done and completed as planned and that there are periodic reviews on progress of projects and budgetary allocations.

Abstract: This study explored the determinants of local participation in the downstream segment of the Zambian copper value chain. This study examines the factors influencing the engagement of local Zambian entrepreneurs in the copper industry's downstream activities, and identifies the challenges they face. A mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and statistical analysis, was employed to gather and analyze data from relevant stakeholders. The findings provide insights into the roles of education, entrepreneurship, technical expertise, government support, international competitiveness, domestic market demand, fair pricing mechanisms, collaboration, and continual monitoring and evaluation in promoting local participation. The paper concludes with recommendations to enhance local participation and stimulate sustainable economic Zambian copper development.

Abstract: Cash flows are narrowly interconnected with the concepts of value, interest rate and liquidity (Auerbach, A. J., & Devereux, M. P. (2013). Proper cash flow management systems in business help the managers to: Control spending with respect to the specified budget, minimize borrowing and maximise the opportunity cost of its company’s resources (Bari et al., 2019). Cash flow management as defined by Ward (2020) is the “process of monitoring, analyzing, and optimizing the net amount of cash receipts minus cash expenses. Net cash flow is an important measure of financial health for any business”. The purpose of the study was to analyze the selected factors of cash flow management on Financial Performance of commercial banks in Bungoma County, Kenya. Specific objectives of the study was to assess the effect of payables management on Financial Performance of commercial banks in Bungoma County, Kenya. The study was based on Portfolio theory of Cash Management, Cash Management theory, Transaction Cost theory, Free Cash Flow theory and pecking order theory. The study used descriptive research design.  The target population of the study was 68 employees in management and supervisory cadres in commercial banks in Bungoma County, Kenya. Census was adopted since the target population was small. Data collection instruments was questionnaires. Data collection methods was both primary and secondary. The data was analyzed using Statistical Program for Social Sciences (SPSS) windows version 23. Multiple linear regression analysis was carried out to analyze the selected factors of cash flow management on Financial Performance of commercial banks in Bungoma County, Kenya. Pilot test was carried out for validity and reliability of research instruments. Regression analysis was carried out to test the significant levels of one variable to the other in the study. ANOVA was carried out to test the hypotheses of the study. Based on the findings, payables management was found to a significant influence financial performance of commercial banks in Bungoma County. The study recommends that  management of commercial banks should universally considered that cash is most liquid asset because it can most quickly and easily be converted into other assets and that commercial banks profitability is influenced by current ratios, quick ratios and cash ratios. The management should take into considerations that dynamic financial management process and its effectiveness is directly correlated with a firm’s ability to realize its mission, goals and objectives.  The commercial banks should ensure that accounts payables arise from purchasing goods or services for use in a company’s operations or purchasing merchandise for sale on credit and. that creditor’s turnover, payables deferral period and cash conversion cycle determines payables determines payables management. They should also be informed that accounts payable is the largest single category of short term debt, representing about forty percent of the average corporation’s current liabilities and payables management enhances financial performance of commercial banks.  The study was significant to the researchers, banking sector and the government of Kenya in formulation of different financial decisions and in policy making.

Abstract: Microfinance banks play a key role in complementing banks in the provision of financial services, especially to the population that is poor and lacks access to commercial banks. The performance of Microfinance banks has been on the decline in Kenya due to slow processing time, lack of new products, low number of customers and lack of staff retention. Microfinance banks offer financial services to a population that cannot get the same services from commercial banks due to the high costs. Microfinance banks in Kenya have been performing poorly in the last few years occasioned by the closure of some of the branches of the microfinance banks while some like Century microfinance banks have been acquired by other Fintech companies. These microfinance banks need to leverage and reconfigure all the resources they have to achieve and maintain sustainable competitiveness. This study sought to investigate the effect of business alignment on the performance of Microfinance banks in Kenya. This study adopted the positivist research philosophy and also adopted the cross-sectional descriptive and explanatory research design. The study employed stratified proportionate sampling and simple random sampling from the 14 registered Microfinance banks regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya. Primary data was collected through structured questionnaires. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics using means and standard deviations while inferential statistics were done through multiple linear regression and analysis of variance while observing the significance levels of p value<0.05. Diagnostic tests on multicollinearity, normality and heteroscedasticity were carried out. Tables and narratives were used to present the results. The study found that business alignment significantly positively affected the performance of microfinance banks. The findings of this study add to the knowledge by developing a conceptual framework based on the strategic alignment model and also revealing the specific alignments that are key to improving the performance of microfinance banks in Kenya. Management of microfinance banks should work with their regulators to change their business model of loan awarding, and leverage technology to offer appraisal and disbursement of quick loans on the mobile.

Abstract: As an important component of human resources, education has always attracted the interest of economists, researchers and policy makers. Governments around the world in general, and Kenya in particular, which spends 30 percent of its budget on education, are trying to increase human capital by investing more in education. However, whether higher education spending can increase school enrollment and transfer rates is still a matter of debate. Several policies have been brought about by the government for example the free primary education and the free day secondary education. In spite of all these efforts, the government still has not achieved its goal which is 100 percent completion and transition rates in both public primary and secondary schools in Kenya. This study sought to identify the nexus between education expenditure and school enrollment rates in Kenya for the period 1990-2020.This study is anchored on the Wagner’s law of increasing state activities, Rostow-Musgrave model and Human Capital theory. The research adopted longitudinal research design and used time series data covering the period of 31 years from 1990-2020. Descriptive statistics like mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum values were used to describe the characteristics of study variables. Using inferential statistics like correlation and regression analysis, the relationship between study variables was established. Tables and graphs were used to display the results. There were tests of time series properties, such as unit root tests, co-integration tests, vector error correction model tests, autocorrelation tests, heteroscedasticity tests, normality tests, and multicollinearity tests. The study findings indicated that education expenditure had a slightly positive effect on primary school enrollment in Kenya. Results also showed that education expenditure had a slightly positive effect on secondary school enrollment in Kenya. The study concluded that education expenditure had a positive effect on school enrollment rates in Kenya. The study recommends that the government of Kenya should review the education expenditure policies to make them more effective in terms of delivering the expected outcome.

Abstract: The purpose of the study was to examine the effect of employee retention strategies on organizational performance.  The study was guided by the following specific objective: to examine the effect of employee empowerment on organizational performance in TransNzoia County, Kenya, The study’s theories were; self-theory, equity theory, McClelland theory. The study used descriptive research design.  The target population of the study was 100 employees in human resource department within County government of TransNzoia. Census was adopted since the target population is small. Data collection instruments was questionnaires. Data collection methods was both primary and secondary. Pilot test was carried out for validity and reliability of research instruments. The data was analyzed using Statistical Program for Social Sciences (SPSS) windows version 23.Multiple linear regression analysis was carried out to examine the effect of retention strategies on employee performance in the county government of TransNzoia, Kenya. Regression analysis was carried out to test the significant levels of one variable to the other in the study. ANOVA was carried out to test the hypotheses of the study. In conclusion basing on the findings, employee empowerment (β = 0.670) was found to be positively related organizational performance in the County Government of TransNzoia, Kenya. From t-test analysis, the t -value was found to be 4.330 and the ρ -value 0.000. Statistically, this null hypothesis was rejected because ρ<0.05. Thus, the study accepted the alternative hypothesis and it concluded that employee empowerment affects organizational performance in the County Government of TransNzoia, Kenya.The study came up with a number of recommendations.  The study recommends that the county government of TransNzoia should empower employee to perform highly since it plays a significant role in the success and survival abilities of the organization and as it encourages better connection amongst workers and their administrators as well as cultivation of innovation, to offer more thoughts and critical thinking arrangements. Providing employees with the necessary guidance and skills, to enable autonomous decision making (including accountability and the responsibility) for making these decisions within acceptable parameters that are part of an organizational culture. Enable flexibility in the work design of employees and, consequently to improve work-life balance and enhance organizational performance. Employees are at liberty to exert their efforts towards the organizational goals when provided with flexible work environment. provision of equitable salary, effective incentive pay program and bonuses to motivate employees to increase their performance in the subsequent year as it makes them expect a repeat in the following year  in expectancy and vice versa. The study will be significant to the government of Kenya, stakeholders, academicians in formulation of different strategies of attracting and retaining talented and qualified employee in the organisation.

Abstract: The world is rapidly developing economically that has led to an increased demand for financial risk management around the globe (Melaku, 2016). The purpose of the study is to determine the effect of market risk on performance of commercial banks in Busia county Kenya The study was guided by the following theories in relation to the study area as extreme value theory, capital market theory, finance distress theory and information asymmetry theory.  The study adopted a descriptive research design. Data collection instrument was structured questionnaire. The study targeted all the 49 respondents including branch manager, credit managers, tellers and in charge of ATMs commercial banks in Busia Kenya. Both primary and secondary data was collected.  The researcher self-dropped and pick the duly filled questionnaires. Piloting was done to test the validity and reliability of data collection instrument. Data organised, coded, edited to bring a meaning.  Data was analysed and presented using the statistical package for social science SPSS version 24. Both descriptive and inferential statistics was done.  Multiple regression was done to test the significant levels of one variable over the other.  Analysis of variance was also be done.  Based on the findings, the study concluded that market risk on financial performance of commercial banks in Busia county Kenya β1=0.488, p value= 0.001). The relationship was considered significant since the p value 0.000 was less than the significant level of 0.05. The study came up with the following recommendations; the financial management should ensure that that they work on Market risk to reduce severe losses within a short period of time among volatile market conditions hence contribute to lack collapse among institutions in harsh situations. To take into consideration the market risk which comprises of exchange rate, inflation and interest rate risks that affect the financial performance of banks. The finding will be of significant to the researchers, academicians, stakeholders and to the entire economy as a whole.

Abstract: SMEs play a crucial role in the economic development of the country, contributing significantly to employment generation and poverty reduction. This study aims to investigate the current status, problems, and potential countermeasures of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Cambodia by providing an in-depth analysis of their current status and challenges. The proposed countermeasures offer valuable insights for policymakers, industry associations, and development agencies to design effective strategies and programs that can foster the growth and development of SMEs in the country. SMEs in Cambodia face challenges such as limited access to finance, lack of comprehensive databases, low levels of R&D expenditures, insufficient use of information technology, inadequate institutional support, bureaucratic hurdles, and skills gaps among the workforce. These challenges hinder their ability to scale up, innovate, and compete in both domestic and international markets. To address these challenges and promote SMEs growth, several policy recommendations are suggested. Improving access to finance can be achieved through innovative financing solutions like credit guarantee schemes and microfinance. Comprehensive databases on SMEs should be established to better understand their needs and design targeted support measures. Incentives for R&D and innovation, as well as the promotion of information technology adoption, should be provided. The business environment can be strengthened by reducing bureaucratic red tape, enhancing the legal framework, and promoting fair competition. Skills training programs for entrepreneurs and employees, investing in infrastructure, fighting corruption, strengthening institutional support, and enhancing human capital development are also important strategies. Promoting innovation and technology adoption through access to digital tools, innovation hubs, and R&D support, as well as fostering collaboration between SMEs, universities, and research institutions, are crucial for SMEs success in Cambodia. It is hoped that this research will contribute to the overall economic development of Cambodia and create a favorable business environment for SMEs to thrive.

Abstract: The study explores the relationship between Nigeria's monetary policy and currency redesign, focusing on the implications for the country's financial stability and economic expansion. The importance of money as a flexible asset is shown by its crucial function in facilitating trade, price communication, and savings. The Nigerian Central Bank uses monetary policy to accomplish a variety of objectives, placing a strong emphasis on the value of currency redesign in reducing currency fraud and boosting national pride. The central bank's recent move to modernize the 200-, 500-, and 1000-Naira banknotes displays its dedication to economic stability, growth, and equilibrium. The study highlights the dynamic link between currency redesign and more general economic results, illuminating its potential to reduce inflation, boost security, and improve cash flow. Although the potential for advancement and security is presented by currency change, careful planning is necessary to enable successful implementation and stakeholder engagement. This review contributes insights into the synergy between monetary policy, currency redesign, and financial resilience, offering recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders alike.

Abstract: The aim of the study was to analyze the influence of supplier debarment on service delivery of water companies in Murang’a County. The agency theory served as the foundation for this study. The employed a descriptive research design. The target population for the study included 240 employees from the five water companies in Murang’a County. Purposive sampling was used as the study focused on the procurement department, heads of user departments, and customers. A sample size of 150 respondents were selected for the study. Questionnaires were used by the researcher to collect primary data. By use of SPSS software version 21, quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and reported as percentages, means, standard deviations, and frequencies. Findings indicate R Square of 0.825 which implies that 82.5% of water companies' service delivery can be attributed to the debarment of suppliers. It was concluded that debarment of suppliers’ boosts service delivery of water companies. The study recommends that organizations should enact debarment policies to provide a potentially significant mechanism in the fight against corruption by barring bidders who have committed "corporate integrity offences" from procurement contracts. It is further recommended that organizations that experience non- performing suppliers should institute debarment by PPRA instead secretly debarring suppliers which results to the same non-performing suppliers being awarded contracts by others firms whereby such firms fails to perform again.

Abstract: The study seeks to achieve its goal in shedding light on Forensic accounting techniques to reduce accounting fraud practices that occur in Iraqi government units, as the study problem is the weakness of the control system applied in those units and its inability to detect cases of manipulation and fraud, whether in the financial or administrative aspect. The study was based on the hypothesis that there is a statistically significant correlation between the variables of applying Forensic accounting techniques and the variables of reducing accounting fraud. Hence, this study came to address the mechanism of applying Forensic accounting techniques within a comprehensive framework in an attempt to search for the effect and the relationship between it and improving the accounting system applied in Iraqi government units.

Abstract: The Nigerian local government system plays a critical role in delivering essential services to citizens at the grassroots level. However, conflicts within the system pose significant challenges to effective service delivery. This research explored conflict management strategies within the Nigerian local government setup and their impact on service provision. The study identifies both non-structural and structural causes of conflicts, including differences in background, values, personal traits, perceptions, poor communication skills, work interdependence, differences in unit orientation and goals, differences in performance criteria and reward systems, mutual dependence on limited resources, and differences in status. By understanding these causes, stakeholders can implement appropriate conflict resolution mechanisms. Various conflict management strategies prevalent in the Nigerian local government system are examined, including avoidance, diffusion, containment, and confrontation. Each strategy has its strengths and limitations, and their effectiveness depends on the specific context and nature of the conflict. To improve service delivery, stakeholders are encouraged to employ collaborative, compromising, and accommodating approaches to find mutually beneficial solutions. Open communication, empathy, and understanding are emphasized as key elements in successful conflict resolution. The research concludes that continuous adaptation of conflict resolution approaches is crucial to address the changing dynamics within Nigerian society. Staying up-to-date with the latest research and understanding the evolving societal, economic, and political landscape will enable more effective conflict management in the local government system, leading to improved service delivery and overall development.

Abstract: Livestock production contributes significantly to the development of the Kenyan economy. In West Pokot County, agriculture and livestock sub-sectors account for 84% of the county’s economy. The sub sectors are expected to be the county's major key toward poverty reduction of 30% and a 10% annual economic growth rate. Dairy farms in South and West Pokot Sub-Counties produce less than 2 litres of milk per cow per day as compared to the national average of 8-10 litres per cow per day. This has led to household vulnerability in terms of food and income security and hence have been unable to gather for their daily needs. Therefore, this present research study was aimed at determining the level of technical efficiency in milk production among smallholder dairy farmers in South and West Pokot Sub-Counties, Kenya. The study adopted descriptive and cross-sectional research. Data was collected using a questionnaire and an interview schedule from a sample of 383 smallholder dairy farmers from five wards and 11 key informants in the two sub-counties. Descriptive results showed that the average age of the smallholder dairy farmers was 45.6 years and they owned on average five dairy cows that produced 1.97 litres of milk per cow per day. Maximum likelihood estimates results showed that a unit increase in  feeding type, labour, water availability, lactation, mineral salts, animal health and silage had a positive impact on milk production per cow per day  by 7.47%, 17.13%, 18.33%, 24.6%, 33.3%, 18.10% and 6.6% respectively. The mean farm technical efficiency in milk production results was 61%. The result shows that dairy farmers were inefficient in milk production. Hence milk production could be increased by 39% through better use of available resources, given the current state of technology without extra costs. Therefore, there is a need for the county and National governments to ensure that dairy farmers are trained through tailor-made dairy extension programmes.

Abstract: Several studies have been conducted on the use of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) in business and public organisations in Zambia. This study was aimed at reviewing articles generated from such research studies to develop a common understanding of the status of adoption and use of ICT in Zambia.

All the literature that were reviewed in this study was obtained from International journal articles published by postgraduate students from the University of Zambia. The journal articles were mostly on the use of e-business technologies in the country.

 An Integrative literature Review approach was used to review 17 journal articles. The process involved identifying and placing the articles in common themes, summarising the results then providing a critique to point out the strengths, gaps and weakness in each article.

The results of this study shows that over two-thirds of the articles focused on identifying challenges in the adoption and use of different information technologies in different sectors that included, E-banking, E-tax, E-returns, Procurement, Supply chain Management, E-Marketing, Records management, Transport, E-learning, Integrated Financial Management Information Systems, Social media, E-governance and money laundering. The articles were mostly based on the Technological Acceptance Model (4 articles), Theory of Planned Behaviour (2 articles), then one each based on the Theory of Reasoned Action, Diffusion of Innovation, Economic Deterrence Theory,  Supply Chain Operations Reference , VT4 and Financial Action Task Force-AML framework.

Overall, the articles presented that there was willingness by Zambians to adopt e-business technologies in the different sectors of the economy including faith-based organisations.  However, the study also showed that there were challenges in the adoption of e-business technologies but these could be overcome but using different models and frameworks.

Abstract: Customer satisfaction is the parameter used by marketing strategist to access the sustainability of product/service valuation and by extension the growth and overall development of the economy.  The abysmal nature of the service provided by the Power Holdings Company of Nigeria PHCN to its customers is of great concern to researchers given the huge budgetary outlay apportioned to the sector; without valid result to match such huge disbursement/investments. The essence of study is to assess from the level of customer satisfaction by juxtaposing current billing process with the quantum of service provided by the energy sector, the study adapted the satisfaction function to elaborate on the disconfirmation theory as benchmark for evaluation. The issues to be examined in this study include; non-implementation of operational policy framework, mismatched billing parameters, and obsolete supply infrastructures. Descriptive survey technique was adapted to retrieve and collate data for analysis; using systematic review process, by adapting PRISMA protocol to accommodate diverse field of studies.  The outcome of the study revealed that there is no correlation between service provided and the amount billed customers in the Nigerian Energy sector. Hence, the study recommended that; customer satisfaction could be actualized, if service providers in the energy sector could embark on a holistic measure; that will equate amount billed as energy used by customer, with the exact value of service provided by the sector to households. Identified gaps in the study were analyzed, to set the tone for future research.

Abstract: Following the introduction of COVID-19 and the subsequent declaration of a global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), it has had a significant impact on various countries' quality of life and other essential aspects of daily living. This viewpoint attempts to provide information and an update on COVID-19 in Ghana and China. The world economy has relied heavily on global trade, which affects almost every nation. There is no distinction between Ghana and nations that significantly rely on international trade. Nearly all countries had to close their borders as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which also forced an end to international trade. This research intends for the purpose of assessing the effect of the pandemic on foreign trading partnerships and the industrial prosperity between China and Ghana. China is one of Ghana's top trading partners. China became very strict on restrictions and policies since the advent of the pandemic which caused a lot of risks factors especially on its international trade with other countries. Covid-19 has presented Ghana with its fair share of problems as a global pandemic. Although some positive steps have been taken, the pandemic's impacts will take time to reverse. This situation, on the other hand, has not only hampered economic development and jeopardized health-care services and/or facilities, but it has also provided Ghana with some promising and innovative solutions to its problems, hence analyzed.

Abstract: This study is on employee welfare and employee commitment in a public service organization: a study of NESREA South West Zone, Nigeria. The main objective is to; find out the welfare packages enjoyable/payable to employees of NESREA South West Zone. The data gathered from 154 respondents using the five-point Likert-Style Rating Scale questionnaire were thematically presented with the aid of tables and descriptive research technique was adopted accordingly. The method of data analysis used was the Z-test research technique. Interestingly, study found that there are spelt out welfare packages in Public Service Rule (PSR) for all Federal Civil Service workers' but even though employees of NESREA South West Zone are enjoying their welfare packages stipulated in PSR, study revealed that all the staff members may not enjoy these privileges at same time, at various times staff members of the organization have benefited. Study recommended among others that to fully motivate and secure staff commitment, welfare provisions as stipulated in PSR need to be duly implemented to arouse commitment, loyalty and honesty towards improved performance in the organization.
